St Georges Flag – Confusion Resolved!

Yesterdays Northern Echo reported how the Durham County Council planning officers told Margaret Cooper, landlady of The Golden Lion Inn at Sedgefield in County Durham that the English flag was a form of advertising and must be removed until planning consent is secured.

St Georges Flag

This is incorrect as can be seen from liberalising the regime for flying flags.

Upon reading the article I immediately contacted Lizzie at the Northern Echo who intervened. As can be seen from todays article the landlady can now fly her flags with pride after the council accepted that they had incorrectly labelled it an advert.
