ERYC Breach Taxi Rank Legislation

Today, following on from Pocklington Taxi Rank – Campaign Success , I discussed taxi rank legislation with local a taxi business.

My Mistake

Firstly I must hold my hand up. I was of the opinion that no Pocklington taxi business held a Hackney Carriage License. This is incorrect, currently four do and shortly there will be five.

ERYC Breach Taxi Rank Legislation

The local authority, East Riding of Yorkshire Council (ERYC), must provide 24 hour parking for Hackney Carriages. As the parking on Railway Street is not provided for solely day time taxi parking ERYC are in breach of legislation (there is evening parking solely for taxis).

Suggested Taxi Rank Locations

One space is adequate but this must be in a central location to be fit for purpose.

My suggested locations are outside the Feathers Hotel

Taxi - Feathers Hotel

and next to Eric Lees.

Taxi - Eric Lees

Indian Restaurant

It is reasonable that the Indian restaurant on Railway Street is permitted to have their customers park outside the restaurant in the evening.

Comlaint to ERYC

Subject: ERYC Breach Taxi Rank Legislation

Dear Nigel,

Could I please refer you to

As ERYC have failed to provide a 24 hour taxi rank solely for taxis I would like to register a complaint against ERYC.

In addition I would like to request that ERYC address this breach at the earliest opportunity.

Kindest Regards,

Andy Strangeway
