Over 30,000 people a year undertake the Three Peaks Challenge, with over 500,000 estimated having completed it. The Three Peaks are the highest mountains of Scotland – Ben Nevis; England – Scafell Pike and Wales – Snowdon. Some complete the challenge in less than 24 hours while others take it at a more leisurely pace.
I decided to take the Three Peaks Challenge to a new level by becoming the first known person to sleep solo on all Three Peaks’ summits. I achieved this by sleeping in a bivy bag. The dates I slept on each summit are:
Tuesday 30/Wednesday 31 August 2011 – Scotland – Ben Nevis:
Wednesday 21/Thursday 22 March 2012 – Wales – Snowdon:
Tuesday 27/Wednesday 28 March 2012 – England – Scafell Pike:
I am unaware if this has ever been achieved before although I would expect a handful of people to have slept on all three summits. It would be great to hear from anyone who has or does so in the future.
In addition to experiencing numerous shooting stars and meteors on the summits, amazingly I was also fortunate to find myself at the centre of a Brocken Spectre on Snowdon.
